Tahitian Odyssey offers two ways to climb Mount Orohena, the highest peak on the island of Tahiti. Culminating at 2,241 m, it is also the peak with the greatest geographical isolation. It is a mixed trail, between hiking and climbing on certain sections. The trail is wild, very vegetated and greasy (mud, wet earth). Throughout the ascent, there are numerous rope passages and on the last part, between Pito Hiti and Orohena, this requires the wearing of a harness + safety lanyards.

*First formula over 2 days / Sporty climb (1 night at the summit of Pito Hiti)

- 1st Day > departure at night (very early in the morning or at midnight - depending on the weather window)

- Ascent of Pito Hiti (2,110 m) via the summit of Pihaiateta (1,742 m) ~ 7 to 8 hours maximum (One way).

- Setting up the camp/bivouac at the summit of Pito Hiti.

- 2nd day > departure at dawn (always depending on the weather window)

- Ascent of Orohena crossing the most challenging and aerial ridge (harness + safety lanyards required) ~ 2 to 3 hours maximum (one way).

- Return to the camp at Pito Hiti, then return immediately the same day (if the maximum times have not been exceeded) ~ 6 to 8 hours maximum (Return)

>>> This formula is sporty and requires you to be within the times mentionned above. If the maximum walking times are exceeded, then we switch to a 3-days Formula <<<

*Second formula over 3 days / Recommended ascent (2 nights at the summit of Pito Hiti)

- 1st Day > departure at night (very early in the morning or at midnight

- depending on the weather window)

- Ascent of Pito Hiti (2,110 m) via the summit of Pihaiateta (1,742 m) ~ 7 to 10 hours (One way).

- Setting up the camp/bivouac at the summit of Pito Hiti.

- 2nd day > departure at dawn (always depending on the weather window)

- Ascent of Orohena crossing the most challenging and aerial ridge (harness + safety lanyards compulsory) ~ 3 to 4 hours (One way).

- Return to camp at Pito Hiti, then 2nd night of camping.

- 3rd day > departure in the early morning to descend slowly to the bottom. ~6 to 7 hours (Return)

>>> This formula offers better management of walking and rest times. This also allows for a flexible weather window in the event that there are disruptions. We enjoy the mountain a little more and what it has to offer <<<

*The times quoted above are indicative and may change depending on your physical condition, the number of hikers in the group and the weather conditions. The ascent of Orohena should not be taken lightly, several athletes did not make it to the end and gave up at Pito Hiti. A phone interview with the guide is necessary to address all the technical points and assess the level of the hikers before embarking on this magical adventure!
